How often should I see the dentist?

Children, teens, and adults should all see the dentist for a regular checkup at least once every six months. Patients who are at a greater risk for oral cancer or gum disease may be required to see the dentist more than just twice a year. Your doctor will help determine how often you should visit the dentist for regular checkups.

At what age should I start taking my child to see the dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that children first see a dentist as early as six months of age and no later than one year of age. During this time, your child’s baby teeth will be coming in and your dentist can examine the health of your child’s first few teeth. After the first visit, be sure to schedule regular checkups every six months.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots, typically made of biocompatible titanium, surgically placed into the jawbone. They provide a stable and long-lasting foundation for replacement teeth like crowns, bridges, or dentures, mimicking the function and appearance of natural teeth

Why should I choose dental implants over other tooth replacement options?

Dental implants offer several advantages, including superior stability, a natural look and feel, preservation of the jawbone, and the ability to function like your own teeth. Unlike bridges, they don’t require altering adjacent healthy teeth, and unlike dentures, they are fixed and secure.

What is the process for getting dental implants at The Smile Studio?

The process typically involves a comprehensive examination and treatment planning, followed by the surgical placement of the implant(s). After a healing period (osseointegration), a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture is attached to the implant. Dr. Mahapatra will guide you through each step with personalized care.

Is dental implant surgery painful?

At The Smile Studio, we prioritize your comfort. The implant procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, ensuring minimal discomfort during the surgery. Post-operative discomfort is usually mild and can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

What is prosthodontics?

Prosthodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry focused on the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance, and health of patients with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues.

What are dental crowns and when are they needed?

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that cover a damaged or weakened tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. They are needed for teeth that are broken, worn down, have large fillings, or after root canal treatment.

How can prosthodontic treatment improve my smile and oral health?

Prosthodontic treatments like crowns, bridges, and dentures can restore your ability to chew and speak properly, improve your facial aesthetics, prevent remaining teeth from shifting, and enhance your overall confidence and quality of life.

How often should I brush my teeth?

According to your dentist and the American Dental Association, you should brush your teeth at least two times a day. Brushing keeps your teeth, gums, and mouth clean and healthy by removing bacteria-causing plaque. It is also recommended that you use a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste that contains fluoride when you brush your teeth. You should spend at least a minute on the top teeth and a minute on the bottom teeth, and remember to brush your tongue; it will help keep your breath smelling fresh.

My teeth feel fine. Do I still need to see a dentist?

Your teeth may feel fine, but it’s still important to see the dentist regularly because problems can exist without you knowing. Your smile’s appearance is important, and your dentist can help keep your smile healthy and beautiful. With so many advances in dentistry, you no longer have to settle for stained, chipped, missing, or misshapen teeth. Today’s dentists offer many treatment choices that can help you smile with confidence,

Why is visiting the dentist so important?

Visiting the dentist regularly is paramount for maintaining optimal oral health and overall well-being. Routine check-ups and cleanings allow for the early detection of dental problems such as cavities, gum disease, and even oral cancer, often before they become painful or cause significant damage. Early intervention can lead to simpler and more cost-effective treatments, preventing the need for extensive and complex procedures down the line.

If I have braces, do I still need regular dental checkups?

Yes! In fact, it’s even more important that patients receiving orthodontic treatment visit their dentist regularly. With braces, food may be caught in places that your toothbrush can’t reach. This causes bacteria to build up and can lead to cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease. Your dentist will work closely with your orthodontist to make sure that your teeth stay clean and healthy while wearing braces.
